US presidential candidate Donald Trump has spoken to Elon Musk. During the conversation he lied several times and used racist narratives.
Dortmund/Washington D.C. - Tesla boss Elon Musk is one of Donald Trump's biggest supporters. On Tuesday (August 13th) the two spoke in a livestream on Musk's online platform X (formerly Twitter) about, among other things, his opponent Kamala Harris and American migration policy. Trump repeatedly resorted to conspiracy theories and violent insults.

But the start of the conversation was bumpy. After some technical problems, the interview between tech billionaire Elon Musk and Donald Trump was delayed. According to Musk, a DDoS attack was to blame.
What is a DDoS attack?
In a DDoS attack (Distributed Denial-of-Service), criminals take advantage of the limited capacity of network resources, such as the server infrastructure on which a company's website is hosted. In a DDoS attack, numerous requests are sent to the affected web resource in order to overwhelm its ability to process requests and thereby impair the availability of the website.
Trump was not deterred by the alleged cyberattack, which delayed the interview by about three quarters of an hour. When the topic of migration came up, he really got going and threw around conspiracy theories.
"Recently, 22 people from the Congo (into the USA, editor's note). They are all murderers," said Trump. These people were allegedly released from prisons in the Congo and sent to the USA. If they return, they face death, according to Trump. However, he left open how he came to this crude theory.
Trump news: Ex-president throws around conspiracy theories in conversation with Elon Musk
"Elon, what happened is unbelievable," said Trump in reference to migration policy in the USA. He is convinced that many people are entering the USA without papers. When it comes to immigrants from Mexico, Trump spoke of "dangerous people" and a "zombie apocalypse on the border." He recently proposed a "migrant league" in which immigrants fight each other.
"These are people who are in prison for murder and all sorts of other things, and they let them go into our country," said the US presidential candidate about migrants from Mexico. However, a connection between immigration and the resulting increase in crime has not yet been scientifically proven. Strangely, however, he says that illegal immigration also "saved his life."
During the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, about which there are also numerous conspiracy theories, a map on illegal immigration was apparently hanging. He turned to this map at the moment of the shot. This is why the shooter missed him, Trump claimed. As the conversation continued, he then attacked his rival for the US presidency - Kamala Harris.
US election 2024: Trump attacks Kamala Harris in Musk interview
According to Trump, Harris "destroyed" California when she was attorney general and later senator of the state. She wanted to ban fracking and cut funding for the police, the former US president incorrectly claimed. Trump's plan may be to discredit Harris in order to regain ground in the polls. She has currently overtaken him.
But she knows how to defend herself and recently took a shot at Trump's vice president J. D. Vance, which the Mercury reported on. In a conversation with Elon Musk, Donald Trump accused Kamala Harris of being a "radical" leftist and described her candidacy for the US presidency as a "coup". But here too he is wrong.
"The statement is - like so much of what Trump claims - nonsense and election campaign bluster," said political scientist Gabriele Abels, according to Tagesschau. The incumbent US President Joe Biden has voluntarily withdrawn from the election race.
Trump spreads untruths in Musk interview - Tesla boss refrains from contradicting
During the controversial interview, Tesla boss Elon Musk refrained from contradicting and let Trump say what he wanted to say. With a live audience of around 1.3 million people and numerous false statements, this is certainly not entirely without risk.
