Trump tells fairy tales: Embarrassing lie about Harris exposed
Article by Marisa Lattemann • 5 hours • 3 minutes reading time
On Thursday (August 8th) Donald Trump invited people to a big event. In a self-convened press conference on his estate in Florida, he let a lot of things slip - especially about his competitor in the presidential race, Kamala Harris. He let a real fairy tale slip about Harris' ex.
A story like something out of an action film or a nightmare. Only the ex in question couldn't remember this situation. Not the only lie of the evening, as it turns out.
Confusion about Kamala Harris!
A bit too much excitement about Kamala Harris for Trump's taste. She collects record donations, laughs happily into the camera and is ahead in the polls in a short time, even in some swing states. Trump doesn't like that, so he invites people to a press conference - or to a fairy tale hour. In addition to a number of other convincingly presented untruths (we report on them here), he told a story that would make Quentin Tarantino green with envy.
According to his story, Trump flew in a helicopter with the former mayor of San Francisco, Willie Brown. He is Kamala Harris' ex-partner, about 30 years ago. The helicopter carrying him and Trump got into trouble and was even forced to make an emergency landing, the former president reported. The story came in response to a question that was actually about the relationship between Harris and Brown.
The stupid thing about it: Brown can't remember it. As it turned out, it was instead the former Los Angeles city councilor and California state senator Nate Holden. Holden told Politico that he once flew with Trump in a helicopter on the way to New Jersey that got into turbulence. Holden said: "Willie is the little black guy who lives in San Francisco." He continued: "I'm a big black guy who lives in Los Angeles."
Trump almost experiences a helicopter crash with Kamala Harris' ex? Who then also badmouths her to him? Trump's latest story is causing laughter - and head shaking.
Trump: Embarrassing blunder or intentional?
It's nothing new for Trump to mix up facts or names or exaggerate anecdotes that don't stand up to scrutiny. This time Trump probably wanted to denigrate Harris. After the story, he said that Brown had told him "terrible things" about Harris. Trump said of Brown: "He wasn't a big fan of her back then."
Brown, however, contradicted this and told the San Francisco Chronicle that he had never badmouthed Harris to Trump. "Absolutely not," said Brown. "I wouldn't say anything bad about any woman to him." Democrat Jerry Brown and Trump actually flew in a helicopter in 2018 to assess forest damage. However, no problems were reported with the flight. Another politician who was on board confirmed this, adding that Brown's then-partner Harris was of course not involved.
Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt refused to explain the inconsistencies in Trump's story on Newsmax on Friday. "I would simply refer you to President Trump's statement and what he said yesterday," Leavitt said. "The president has many amazing stories from his life."
