Alain Delon died on Sunday. In honor of the French actor, ARTE is changing its television program on two days.
Alain Delon was one of France's greatest actors. The French-Swiss actor and producer was in front of the camera for around 60 years - including in timeless works by important directors such as Luchino Visconti and Jean-Pierre Melville. On Sunday, August 18, 2024, Alain Delon died at the age of 88.
To mark this occasion, ARTE is changing its TV program on two days. On Monday, August 19, 2024, one of the early films from Alain Delon's life, "Silent as the Night," will be shown at prime time at 8:15 p.m. The French heist film by Henri Verneuil tells the story of the two criminals Charles (Jean Gabin) and Francis (Alain Delon), who rob a casino in Cannes.
This will be followed at 10:10 p.m. by a documentary entitled "Alain Delon, personally," which sheds light on the actor's life behind the scenes. The production, directed by Philippe Kohly, was released in 2015 and is dedicated, among other things, to Alain Delon's difficult childhood, loneliness and desire for freedom.
Later in the evening, starting at 11:05 p.m., another feature film from the 1960s, "Like Big Cats," follows, in which Alain Delon can be seen as the young playboy Marc, who becomes entangled in a nasty feud with a New York gangster boss.
All three formats will also be available on arte.tv from Monday.

ARTE program changes on Wednesday
On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, the French cable broadcaster will also free up three slots in the TV program for productions with or about Alain Delon. At 2:15 p.m., the crime thriller "The Adventurers" will start on ARTE, in which two crazy inventors meet an artist and embark on a strange adventure with her.
At 4:00 p.m., "Blow up - Homage to Alain Delon" follows, a ten-minute format that dedicates a short portrait to the artist. Then, from 4:10 p.m., "Romy and Alain: The Eternal Fiancés" describes the relationship between the actor and the actress Romy Schneider. The documentary, directed by Olivier Monssens, was released in 2022.
The two documentary formats can now also be found on arte.tv.
