J.D. Vance is the vice-presidential candidate with the lowest popularity since 1980. Trump is still optimistic.
After the Republican convention, J.D. Vance, Trump's vice-presidential candidate, was the first vice-presidential candidate since 1980 to receive a negative popularity rating. According to Fox News, Vance is at -6 points.
"Vance is making history in the wrong way"
CNN data journalist Harry Enten compared this with the average value of the last two decades, which was +19 points. "Vance is making history in the completely wrong way," said Enten. According to Fox News, Vance should support Trump among the working class in the Rust Belt, but his poll numbers cast doubt on this.
Vance only managed to win his Senate seat in Ohio by 6 points in 2022, while Trump won the state by 8 points in 2020.
Vance performs worse among workers than Trump
Trump is optimistic despite Vance's negative poll numbers. Trump's communications director Steven Cheung told Newsweek that Trump was very happy with Vance's election and that reports of doubts about the election were "ridiculous fake news."
According to a recent Economist/YouGov poll, 22 percent of Americans view Vance positively and 31 percent negatively. Newsweek analyzed that Vance performed worse among voters without a college degree than Trump and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine did in their respective elections.
