Chamonix (France) - The mountains were her life, she felt safe there, she loved doing sports in the Alps. But now the only 26-year-old Adèle Milloz died in the mountains of all places.
As the Daily Mail reports, the French ski mountaineering world champion died on Mont Blanc last Friday.
She and her companion (30) apparently fell to their deaths on a mountain route and were found lifeless a little later by other climbers. Any help came too late.
The two were traveling on a classic route on the French side of the mountain when the dramatic accident happened. Apparently they wanted to climb from the 3192 meter high "Aiguille du Peigne" to the 3842 meter high "Aiguille du Midi" when the accident took its course.
The cause of the crash is still completely unclear. The athlete, who won gold in individual and team sprints in ski mountaineering at the Military World Championships in Sochi in 2017, ended her active career in 2019.
She then began training as a high mountain guide in Chamonix. She grew up in the Alps, and thanks to her sport and education, she knew the area extremely well.
Did the extreme drought lead to the fatal crash of the two women on Mont Blanc?
A prolific ski mountaineer, Milloz grew up in the French Alps and knew the route that would doom her well.
The crash of the two young women is all the more tragic.
One fact that both may have overlooked is the extreme drought that is affecting all of Europe right now. It has also been in the French Alps for weeks.
That's why only last month there was a warning to all climbers in the Alps to postpone their tours because the routes have become more dangerous and the risk of falling has increased enormously.
Although there was no express ban on entry, a police officer told the Daily Mail: "The high mountains have become even more dangerous due to the drought. But access was not explicitly banned."
Everyone who knew Adèle and her companion is in deep mourning.
A week before her tragic death, she posted a post on Instagram showing her with two companions. She wrote: "First part of my summer leadership season is over. It's been great with all my strong and dear clients. Now it's time for other work.
