SPIEGEL poll on Bundestag election: The race is wide open

THE SPIEGEL Anna Reimann 22 hrs ago | When was the last time there was such a thing? Shortly before the Bundestag election, no clear favorite emerges. The CDU/CSU and SPD are almost tied, with the Greens alone in a clear third place. Everything points to an election thriller on Sunday. In the last poll conducted by the opinion research institute Civey for SPIEGEL before the federal election, which is not a forecast for Sunday, the SPD and the CDU/CSU parties are currently so close together that no clear front-runner can be identified. In this snapshot, the SPD comes in at 25 percent and the CDU/CSU at 23 percent. The statistical margin of error is 2.5 percentage points. The race is not only open at the top, but also in the midfield: the FDP has 12 percent, the AfD 10 percent. Only the Greens have established themselves as a clear third-place finisher, reaching 16 percent. The Left Party comes in at 6 percent in the poll, which was conducted between September 16 and 23. From the last measuring point of this poll to the closing of the polling stations on Sunday, there are thus still almost four days in which mainly undecided and tactical voters can make up their minds.
