It will be a big break for the ESC - also in terms of financing - if Germany really leaves the ESC
The vast majority of the German population - almost 75% of those surveyed - said that Germany should no longer take part in the ESC if Isaak does not receive any points again. The German contribution is viewed as good by most respondents and Isaak is an excellent singer. Due to the German ESC bashing in recent years, many respondents have lost interest in the ESC. The future of Germany at the ESC will probably be decided on May 11th. It will be a big break for the ESC - also in terms of financing - if Germany really leaves the ESC.
It's the same every year. I come from Sweden and have spoken to many ESC fans from all over the world about German ESC bashing. ESC fans are aware of this. If this happens again this year, Germany should leave the ESC. Italy left the ESC many years ago, returned after a long time and now has excellent results. It's a shame what's happening to Germany and they don't deserve these very poor results. My family, friends and I will vote for Isaak and Germany because that's not fair at all. Let's vote for the German contribution. The German ESC bashing should be stopped!!!! We saw the German final and Isaak was one of our three favorites and he deserved a good ESC result.
Best regards
Linde Lund

Guaranteed place in the final: This is how much Germany paid for the ESC in recent years
Story by Natascha Berger • 1 day • 2 minutes reading time
European Music Competition
In recent years, the German ESC participants have not shone particularly well. Nevertheless, the costs that Germany has to pay for the music competition are increasing.
Munich – It won't be long before fans of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) will get their money's worth again. After the semi-finals on Tuesday and Thursday, the grand finale will take place in Malmö on Saturday (May 11th). But amidst the anticipation of the 37 appearances, some are already asking themselves: Will Germany come away empty-handed again? This scenario is not unthinkable given the past.
In recent years, there has been repeated criticism in connection with Germany's poor ranking that participation would no longer be worthwhile given the high costs. But how much did Germany actually pay the ESC in recent years?
This is how much Germany pays to be able to take part in the ESC
At the Eurovision Song Content 2024 in the host country Sweden, Isaak (29) will be competing for Germany with “Always On The Run”. For many viewers and ESC commentator Thorsten Schorn, he is hope - after all, Germany has apparently not been able to meet European musical tastes in recent years. It remains to be seen whether German ESC fans will once again be happy with Isaak. Also how much Germany spends on participating in the 68th edition of the music competition. But a look at the figures from the last few years should already give a foretaste.
Year participation fee (partially rounded)
2023 473,000 euros
2022 407,000 euros
2021 396,452 euros
2019 405,100 euros
2018 400,800 euros
In the last three years, Germany has spent a total of around 1.28 million euros on participating in the ESC.
These are the ESC participation fees of other countries
But how high is the participation fee in Germany compared to other countries? First of all: It is not possible to find figures for all participating countries because the broadcasters do not publish them. For example, Spain paid 347,700 euros in 2023, Greece only 150,000 euros. So less than a third of the German share.
This is because the cost of participating in the Eurovision Song Contest varies from country to country due to a levy system run by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The EBU organizes the ESC and is financed by the participating countries - larger members, also in terms of ratings, pay more than Greece, for example. Recently, over 1,000 musicians called for a country to be excluded from the ESC.
Is it worth it for Germany to take part in the ESC this year with more than “zero points”?
