The citizens have long been fed up with it, Mr. Chancellor!

"I am fed up with such acts of violence happening here every few weeks." Who would want to contradict the Chancellor when he says this about the cowardly massacre in Aschaffenburg? The citizens have long been fed up with this senseless violence and expect politicians to finally come up with solutions instead of ever-new expressions of sympathy.
There have been too many expressions of concern that have ultimately led to no or inadequate consequences. Berlin, Mannheim, Magdeburg, Brokstedt, Solingen - violence by migrants who are not actually allowed to be in Germany threatens security, the feeling of security and - this is particularly dramatic - the political stability of our democracy and must finally be combated more consistently.
Consequences: As Chancellor, Merz wants a "de facto entry ban" for illegal immigrants
All that needs to be done is to implement the applicable law; all the instruments have long been on the table within the framework of our constitution and laws.
And it is not a good idea for the states and the federal government, or parties with government responsibility, to point fingers at each other and make wild accusations just before the federal election. That does not create trust. It is only disgusting and strengthens anti-democratic forces.
The Germans are not stupid. They know that migration policy got out of hand under a Union-led federal government and the subsequent government failed to adequately correct mistakes. That is exactly what must happen now in a joint effort. Politicians owe that to their citizens and to all peaceful foreigners in the country.
