The migration pressure on Germany is higher than it has been since 2016. This is particularly illustrated by the number of asylum applications up to September.

Up to and including September, over 250,000 asylum applications were submitted this year - already more than in 2022 in total. As the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) announced on Monday, 29,570 people applied for asylum in September. The number was at the same level as the previous month: 29,566 applications for asylum were submitted in August.
From January to September, the BAMF recorded a total of 251,213 asylum applications - in 2022 there were 244,132 for the whole year. More asylum applications have been submitted this year than in any year since 2016, when over 740,000 applications were registered.
Around 21,000 illegal entries were registered in September
According to a media report, the number of unauthorized entries into Germany also continued to rise in September. According to information from the newspaper “Welt” from the Federal Police, around 21,000 migrants were found to have entered the country illegally in September - a new high in the current year. On average, around 700 people crossed the borders illegally every day.
Compared to August, in which the federal police registered 14,701 illegal entries, the number rose by around 42 percent. In total, over 91,750 people entered the Federal Republic of Germany illegally in the first nine months of the year. This means that the number is almost at the level for the whole of 2022 - at that time there were 91,986 illegal entries. (AFP)
