Nordic combined athlete Vinzenz Geiger has won in Estonia.
Victory for Vinzenz Geiger, victory for Nathalie Armbruster: The German Nordic combined athletes are travelling to the Nordic World Ski Championships in Norway full of hope and with a lot of self-confidence. In the dress rehearsal for the championships, which begin on February 26 in Trondheim, the German team once again demonstrated its strength.
Geiger, who had already won the day before, also prevailed over Norwegian Jarl Magnus Riiber at the end of the competitions in Otepää, Estonia. Geiger thus further reduced his deficit in the overall World Cup to the leading 27-year-old.
Three Germans among the best four athletes
In the decisive cross-country race in the still relatively new individual compact format, Geiger and Riiber pulled ahead early on. Geiger then pulled away on the final lap. Julian Schmid in third place and Wendelin Thannheimer in fourth ensured a strong result for the team of national coach Eric Frenzel.
The Individual Compact starts with a ski jump. In the cross-country race, the competitors then start at fixed intervals depending on their jump placement. Riiber started the 7.5 kilometer race six seconds ahead of Geiger from Oberstdorf.
Armbruster as strong as ever
In the women's race, Nathalie Armbruster had also impressively confirmed her strong form. The Baden-Württemberg native extended her lead in the overall World Cup. Armbruster beat the Norwegian Ida Marie Hagen in the decisive five kilometer race with a strong final spurt and celebrated another first place.
Armbruster had only achieved her first and second World Cup victories of her career last weekend. On Saturday, the 19-year-old came third.
