On Tuesday, 155 Afghans landed in Berlin on a charter flight. This was made possible by the federal admission program for "particularly vulnerable people". The CDU sharply criticizes the action. Interior expert Alexander Throm speaks of a "gross foul play by the Greens".
The surprising admission of 155 Afghans in Germany, who landed in Berlin on Tuesday on a charter flight from Islamabad (Pakistan), has met with fierce criticism from the Union.
According to the SPD-led Federal Ministry of the Interior, more than half of the passengers are people from the federal admission program for "particularly vulnerable people" from Afghanistan. The remaining passengers received admission promises through the local staff procedure, the so-called human rights list and a bridging program.
CDU interior expert Throm: “Gross foul play by the Greens”
Alexander Throm, interior policy spokesman for the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, told FOCUS online: “The admission of Afghans by plane bears the signature of Foreign Minister Baerbock. Apparently the Greens want to fly as many Afghan citizens as possible to Germany at the last minute before they leave the federal government. This is a gross foul play by the Greens.”
The CDU politician continued: “As the Union, we have always campaigned for the protection of our local staff, but the much more extensive federal admission program for Afghanistan with over 3,000 admission commitments was a serious mistake by the traffic light coalition.”
Throm to FOCUS online: “The program must be stopped immediately!” The traffic light coalition has brought people to Germany “who never had any connection to our country,” criticized the interior expert. “Our priority is instead to return those who are required to leave the country to Afghanistan.”
Saxony's Interior Minister Armin Schuster also sharply criticized the continuation of flights to Germany. "We states have repeatedly called for the immediate halt to the admission programs," said the CDU politician. It was a "remarkable impudence" on the part of the federal government to "stop the flights in a media-effective manner" before the election, only to allow them to take place again immediately after the election.
Entry of Afghans temporarily suspended before election
Before the federal election last Sunday, the government had temporarily suspended the entry of Afghans and canceled two flights from Islamabad at short notice. "The postponements of the current flights were made on the initiative of the Federal Foreign Office," a spokesman for the Federal Ministry of the Interior said when asked.
According to the Federal Foreign Office, more than 35,000 people have been able to enter Germany since the start of the various admission procedures after the fall of Kabul in August 2021. As part of the federal admission program, around 3,000 people have received an approval, and 1,000 people have actually entered the country so far.
According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, the costs of the federal reception program for particularly vulnerable Afghans have so far amounted to around 25 million euros.
