Kamala Harris wants to toughen her tone against Trump
7.24 a.m.: One month before the US presidential election on November 5th, Kamala Harris' campaign team has announced that it will toughen its tone against her Republican rival Donald Trump. "We will emphasize the differences between the candidates even more," Harris' campaign manager Cedric Richmond told NBC News, adding: "Nobody expects us to handle Trump with kid gloves."
By focusing on Trump's weaknesses and past mistakes, Harris' team wants to win over the last undecided voters. "One month before the election, we have to make it even clearer how decisive this vote will be," said Richmond. "There will be a noticeable change." The reason for the decision is apparently the concern that Harris's run up in the polls could stagnate. "The numbers aren't moving," NBC News anonymously quoted another campaign manager from Harris' team as saying.
At the moment, things aren't looking bad for Harris in the polls. At the national level, the Democratic candidate is currently about 3 percentage points ahead of Donald Trump, and Harris was also narrowly ahead in the majority of the contested "swing states." In addition, it is only recently that a majority of Americans have expressed a positive opinion of Joe Biden's vice president - something Donald Trump has never managed to do before.
Biden is concerned about possible violence after the US election
12:10 a.m.: US President Joe Biden is convinced that the upcoming presidential election will be fair, but again expresses concern about possible unrest. "I am convinced that it will be free and fair," said Biden in response to a journalist's question. "I don't know if it will be peaceful." With regard to the Republican opposition, Biden was skeptical that they would accept defeat. "They didn't even accept the result of the last election. So I'm worried about what they will do," said the US President.

Former President Obama joins Harris' campaign
8:12 p.m.: Former US President Barack Obama will actively support the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris in the weeks leading up to election day on November 5th. As Harris' campaign team announced on Friday, Obama will make his first appearance in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, next Thursday and will hold further rallies in the weeks that follow, especially in the most contested states.
The former president attaches great importance to the outcome of the election on November 5, explained Obama's advisor Eric Schultz. "That's why he is doing everything he can to help Vice President Harris (...) get elected."
Musk expected at Trump appearance in Butler
6:56 p.m.: Donald Trump's campaign team has announced special guests for the Republican presidential candidate's appearance at the site of the assassination attempt on him in Pennsylvania - including tech billionaire Elon Musk. Musk wrote on X: "I will be there and support!" Also expected at the event this weekend are family members of the Trump supporter killed in the attack in July, Republican vice presidential candidate J. D. Vance, various MPs and police representatives.
Trump plans to appear again in the town of Butler on Saturday (11 p.m. German time). He was the victim of an assassination attempt there in mid-July. The gunman shot him at a Republican Party campaign event. One visitor died and two others were injured. Trump was wounded in the right ear by a bullet. The perpetrator was killed by security forces.
