Quickly go shopping in Alsace - what is allowed?

Cindy Collet Wednesday, December 9, 2020 - 3:17 p.m. Border residents are unsettled: A short stay in Landau's French twin town Hagenau, Christmas shopping in Weissenburg or visiting relatives in Alsace, is this currently allowed? The German-French border is open. This is emphasized by Christian Tiriou, project manager at the Center for European Consumer Protection. However, there is still a curfew in France until December 15. Walking and outdoor recreational activities are only allowed for three hours a day. "A special exit certificate (Attestation de déplacement dérogatoire) that you have filled out yourself must always be carried with you, otherwise you risk a fine of 135 euros," says Tiriou. The point “déplacements pour effectuer des achats de biens” should be crossed on the certificate. From December 15, the all-day curfew is to be abolished, "provided the daily new infections are below 5000". Then no reason for crossing the border has to be given during the day and the certificate is omitted. “A night curfew from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. should come into effect, except on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.” For Christmas shopping, Germans are allowed to shop until 9 p.m. No quarantine for short breaks Shops are allowed to open on Advent Sundays. Bars and restaurants should remain closed until at least January 20th. Cinemas, theaters and museums are expected to reopen on December 15th. There will be no Christmas markets in Alsace this year, says Tiriou. However, a few stalls have been approved in smaller cities such as Weißenburg and Hagenau. Visiting relatives and acquaintances is allowed, but only with good reason until December 15, for example because of a need for care. The state of Rhineland-Palatinate allows short vacations of up to 72 hours in France without subsequent quarantine. Those who stay there longer have to be in quarantine for at least ten days on their return journey, and at least five days for a negative corona test, explains Tiriou.
