UNESCO City of Literature: Wolfgang Hampel, author of 'Satire is my favorite animal' with "Poetry on the go" and the nostalgic train on a tour Event on Friday, October 11, 2024 A leisurely city tour in the nostalgic atmosphere of an old tram and multifaceted poetry by local and international authors: This interesting combination is offered by the event series "Poetry on the go", which takes place on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. In cooperation with the Cultural Office of the City of Heidelberg and Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH (rnv), the nostalgic train "Sixty", built in 1963 and fully restored for modern use, rolls along the Heidelberg rails and describes four entertaining tours between the districts of Bergheim and Handschuhsheim. During the journey, Wolfgang Hampel and Heidelberg authors read from their works. In addition, each of them acts as a sponsor for international poems from various UNESCO Cities of Literature around the world. The poems were translated into German especially for "Poetry on the Go" and are also recited during the tours. Wolfgang Hampel, the winner of the SWR Ingrid Noll competition and founder of the literary and musical cult event 'Vita Magica', reads, among other things, the popular satirical poem 'Marco Polo lives on the corner' from his book 'Satire is my favorite animal', which won the Betty MacDonald Memorial Award. The book is a worldwide success and is considered by many critics and readers to be one of the most humorous books of all time. The world-famous Lady of Crime, Ingrid Noll, says: "I always look forward to reading a humorous masterpiece by Wolfgang Hampel!" It is not possible to board during the tour. The tours start and end at the Betriebshof stop (between Karl-Metz-Straße and Mittermaierstraße). To make planning easier, the Cultural Office asks that you register by email to anmeldung.kulturamt@heidelberg.de, stating your desired start time (2 p.m., 3.15 p.m., 4.30 p.m., 5.45 p.m.). Multiple trips per passenger are possible. The registration deadline is Tuesday, October 8th.
