Now there's more pressure - "Time for excuses over" Article by Cedric Triebsch • 13 hours • 2 minutes reading time On Sunday (October 27th) summer time will end. At three o'clock the clocks will be set back an hour, ushering in winter time. The time change has been causing resentment among the population for years. Because the time change has a negative impact, especially with regard to biorhythms and health. Some people even have a little jet lag despite the one hour. Time change: EU MPs call for abolition An extensive, if not representative, survey had already shown in 2018 that a majority of 84 percent of EU citizens had had enough of the time change. Parliament voted in favor at the time, and the then EU chief Jean-Claude Juncker gave his word. Since then, however, nothing has happened - also because of the corona pandemic. Now the EU Parliament is making a new attempt. The pressure is increasing and head Ursula von der Leyen will now have to deal with the issue in concrete terms. Almost 70 MPs are calling in a letter specifically for the end of the time change. The German traffic light government is also being called upon to take action. ++ Time change: Experts' demand upsets everyone - "Incredibly frustrating" ++ For Green politician Anna Cavazzini, the time change is "not only an annoying ritual, but also an unnecessary stress factor for our bodies". Her accusation against the member states: "It is frustrating that the Council is blocking any progress." CSU member calls on traffic light to act CSU member and EU MP Markus Ferber criticizes the "endless aria" in the European Council. "The EU states seem to be deliberately ignoring the fact that it is now up to them to implement the abolition of the time change," says Ferber. Above all, the traffic light government must now act and get the ball rolling.
