He made his breakthrough on television in 1989 in his first leading role as Koslowski in the "Tatort" crime series "Die Neue". Mendl played Chancellor Willy Brandt, Pope John Paul II and the captain in "Die Gustloff". He was quoted as a general in the World War II drama "Downfall" in Hitler's bunker and played in the Netflix series "Dark". The actor has already received numerous awards. The Götze George Prize was created in 2017 and is named after the actor Götz George (1938-2016).
