Jens Spahn at the German Day of the Young Union The CDU is not letting up after the controversial social media post about the Gaza war by Vice President of the Bundestag Aydan Özoguz (SPD). The deputy head of the Union faction, Jens Spahn, again called for her resignation in harsh words at the German Day of the Young Union. "It is a disgrace that for the first time since Hermann Göring we may be meeting again in the German Bundestag, discussing things, or someone is sitting there and presiding against Israel and against Jews. That is unacceptable, and that is why she must resign," demanded Spahn in Halle in Saxony-Anhalt. The National Socialist Göring was President of the Reichstag from 1932 to 1945. According to her office, the Hamburg SPD politician Özoguz shared a post by "Jewish Voice for Peace" as an Instagram story in mid-October. The process can no longer be traced on her account. The "Bild" newspaper reported that the post was about an Israeli attack on a hospital in the Gaza Strip. One photo shows burning objects with the caption "This is Zionism" above them. The Zionist movement emerged in the 19th century with the aim of creating a Jewish nation-state - Israel was founded in 1948. After she shared the post, the politician faced massive criticism, and there were already numerous calls for her resignation. The Union accused her of having adopted anti-Israel statements. Özoguz apologized for the post. "It was a mistake to share this Instagram story. I apologize," the politician said after a meeting of the Bundestag's Council of Elders about the incident.
