Emotional words from pop star Nicole: "Nobody should see me cry" Article by Momir Takac • 47 million • 2 minutes reading time "Was in a deep valley" After the devastating diagnosis of cancer, Nicole fought her way back to life. The pop singer looks back on the difficult time with humility. Munich - "Carpe diem" (Enjoy the day) is the name of the new album by pop star Nicole (59, "A little peace"), with which she will tour Germany in November. The name was chosen deliberately. It is her new motto in life and an encouragement for everyone else. She knows what she is talking and singing about: Nicole has overcome cancer. Now she has given emotional insights into the most difficult time of her life. Pop singer Nicole talks about her cancer At the end of 2020, the 1982 ESC winner was found to have two malignant tumors in her breast. This was followed by radiation, chemotherapy and an operation. Nicole also lost her hair. After almost two years, she had defeated the insidious disease. Today, she says in an interview with Frau im Spiegel on the occasion of her 60th birthday, she is doing well physically and mentally. "I can go on living." But she has had a bad time. The doctors' diagnosis at the time was "incredibly hard." "Of course, I was in a deep valley at first," says Nicole. But the pop singer fought her way out of it. Her husband Winfried Seibert, her family and "a handful of good friends" helped her. Her mother "suffered a lot" during the illness. Nicole kept her cancer a secret because she didn't want pity Nicole only made her cancer public in spring 2022, shortly before she was told that she was cured. "I didn't want pity. Nobody should see me cry," she says as the reason. "I only cried for myself." The fact that her illness could be kept secret for so long was also due to the village in which she lives. "800 people kept quiet like a protective wall of silence for a year," explains Nicole. Cancer has made Nicole a different person. "I live much more consciously today, enjoy life more intensely," says the pop singer, who is far from thinking about ending her career. She is also more humble, as she explains to the German Press Agency (dpa): "I am so grateful for every year. There are many who are not so lucky." Therefore, the appeal to people and fans is: "Enjoy life! Every day, every hour. You never know when it will be over." (mt) Sources used: Frau im Spiegel (issue 44/2024), dpa
