Dürr wants an end to government payments to sea rescuers

WORLD Dürr wants an end to government payments to sea rescuers 15 hours The federal government should not support private sea rescuers, demands FDP parliamentary group leader Christian Dürr. The “perfidious system” must be broken. Dürr also called on the federal states to no longer process social benefits to asylum seekers in cash. The FDP parliamentary group leader Christian Dürr is critical of the federal government's annual payments to private sea rescuers. “The goal must be that non-private organizations are supported,” said Dürr on Wednesday in the RTL and ntv program “ Frühstart ”. In an emergency, the European Union must do this. “And this perfidious system must be broken,” added the FDP politician. This is associated with a lot of suffering. People paid money to potentially get into distress at sea, said Dürr. “This must have no future.” Italy has sharply criticized the financing of aid ships flying the German flag. At the end of September, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said that countries under whose flag such ships were traveling should also take in the rescued refugees. Dürr also called on the federal states to no longer process social benefits to asylum seekers in cash. They would have to change this by the next Prime Minister's Conference with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) on November 6th at the latest, he said. “My ultimatum is: November 6th. is the deadline. By then, all 16 MPs have to say we don’t want any more cash payments because they are a pull factor.” The FDP suggested weeks ago to switch to a payment card system because asylum seekers sometimes sent some of the money home, said Dürr. However, it is not intended for that. “That’s why these cash payments must finally stop.” Dürr believes that the stationary border controls with Poland and the Czech Republic, which are favored by the Union, are worth considering - “I am open to that”. Stationary border controls with Austria have been in place for several years, and the same could be done with Poland and the Czech Republic. For the FDP politician, however, it has to be a temporary measure, “because we don’t want to raise the European internal borders again because of the migration situation”.
