Trump's reaction to Harris' first interview speaks volumes
6 hours • 3 minutes reading time
The broadcast of the first TV interview with Kamala Harris as presidential candidate had just ended when Donald Trump posted a first reaction on his Truth Social network: "Boring!!!". The 78-year-old felt bored.
The ex-president initially couldn't think of anything else to say about the conversation between CNN correspondent Dana Bash, Harris and her running mate Tim Walz. Significantly, when Kamala Harris gave her speech at the Democratic Party convention in Chicago, Trump and his team had sent out dozens of comments on the platform almost every minute.
The pressure on Kamala Harris was immense
The fact that Trump, who is otherwise not at a loss for insults, no matter how vulgar, found no real point of attack is in itself a success. After all, there was a lot at stake for Harris. Because she had delayed her first interview for so long, she was under special observation. The pressure was immense. It was already clear beforehand that she would not be able to afford a blunder like the one she made during a disastrous interview as Vice President in 2021, which still haunts her today.
After the broadcast, social media also showed that Harris had apparently not given Trump supporters any ammunition that the other side could capitalize on. One point of criticism that kept cropping up, and which conservative political commentator Scott Jennings also raised on CNN, was that why did she bring Walz with her? Doesn't she dare to do it alone? Trump had also given a TV interview with J.D. Vance at his side.
Kamala Harris: Will there be more interviews?
It remains to be seen whether Harris will give more interviews soon after the premiere. In fact, the 59-year-old provided more answers to the question of where she actually stands in terms of content than she had previously done in many of her speeches. The Democrat insisted that she had not changed her values in recent years, a frequent accusation made against her by Republicans.
At the same time, she made it clear, among other things, that as US President she would not ban fracking. In the US, large quantities of natural gas are extracted using the controversial method. In the past, Harris had spoken out against fracking, but had already given up this position several years ago. Fracking is an important issue in the contested state of Pennsylvania.
