Billie Eilish on the US election: "Vote like your life depends on it"
The American singer Billie Eilish has announced that she will vote for Kamala Harris in the US presidential election. On her Instagram channel, she addressed her fans together with her brother, singer-songwriter and actor Finneas O'Connel. The two stars called on people to vote "like your life depends on it".
In a video, Eilish and O'Connel also explain why they support the Democratic candidate and her vice president Tim Waltz. "They protect our reproductive freedom, our environment and our democracy," Eilish says to the camera. "We cannot let extremists control our lives, our freedom and our future," adds O'Connel.
The post was created on the occasion of National Voter Registration Day in the USA, a non-partisan day of action. The two musicians therefore end their message with an appeal to their followers to register as voters and use their voices in the presidential election.
They are not the first stars to speak out in favor of Harris and Walz in the US election campaign. Taylor Swift recently announced that she would support the Democratic duo. Hollywood stars such as Robert De Niro and Jamie Lee Curtis also want to vote for Harris. British singer Charli XCX announced on X that "Kamala IS brat" - a reference to her successful album "Brat". The post appealed primarily to younger voters.
