The suspects, a 36-year-old and a 38-year-old, were taken into custody, the Dresden public prosecutor's office and the federal police in Halle in Saxony-Anhalt announced on Wednesday. They are said to have received more than a hundred thousand euros for the smuggling. The suspects were arrested in Dresden on Tuesday. The accused's shared apartment was also searched. Several pieces of evidence were confiscated, including storage media, smartphones, and thousands of euros in cash and gold jewelry. 55 federal police officers were deployed. The 36-year-old Lebanese is said to have organized the smuggling of at least 87 people since November 2022. The majority of these were Syrians. They were brought to Germany primarily via Belarus and Poland. A total of 15 crimes were committed. The 38-year-old Lebanese woman is said to have been involved in the organization in four cases. Both suspects received a combined 130,000 euros in human trafficking fees. The 36-year-old is said to have received an additional 260,000 euros. An asset seizure was imposed. The investigation into the suspicion of gang-related and commercial smuggling of foreigners is ongoing.
