Berlin (dts news agency) - The former speed skater and multiple Olympic champion Claudia Pechstein criticizes the political culture in Germany.
"The opinion dictates of an admittedly very loud minority are losing their effect. At least if you can believe the election polls in the East," writes Pechstein in a guest article for the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung".
Pechstein predicts "a disaster" for the SPD, FDP and Greens in the upcoming state elections in Thuringia, Saxony and Brandenburg. East Germans have "a very fine sense that the deliberately soft coordination in schools, work and sport is spreading like mildew over this country," writes Pechstein.
In the guest article, Pechstein also criticized the fact that "nobody" in Germany wants to hear "truths". Pechstein's accusation is therefore directed at the people who "live in their financially carefree wokeness bubble and want to dictate to us what we should and should not do." By "us" she means: "The silent majority in Germany. Those who live in families with father, mother and child. Who like to put sausages and steaks on the grill in the summer. Who dance to Helene Fischer's "Atemlos" in a party mood. Who drive to the Baltic Sea on vacation in a petrol car. Who think that gender is a serious linguistic accident. And those for whom it is self-evident that asylum seekers must also abide by our laws and customs." Claudia Pechstein was born in East Berlin in 1972. As a speed skater, she was one of the most successful German winter sports athletes. In June 2023, Pechstein gave a much-noticed and sometimes heavily criticized speech at the CDU policy convention. She later had to pay a fine for wearing the uniform during the speech.
