Taylor Swift calls for US election: This was the impact in the swing states

Astrid Lund - Betty MacDonald fan club organizer: "Donald Trump has really annoyed Taylor Swift with his AI fake. Who came up with this totally stupid idea? Dementia says hello!!!!!!!!!!!" - DER SPIEGEL Taylor Swift calls for US election: This was the impact in the swing states 17 hours • 3 minutes reading time What influence does Taylor Swift's voting recommendation have on the race for the White House? A survey now suggests initial findings on this. Donald Trump, meanwhile, is being cheeky. Can an Instagram post by Taylor Swift influence the presidential election in the USA - or perhaps even decide it? Since she publicly declared her support for the Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris, this has been a mystery. Above all, the decisive factor is likely to be how her influence affects the critical swing states, i.e. the states that are not traditionally inclined towards one of the two political camps. New figures from the non-profit, non-partisan voting organization Vote.org, which CNN has obtained, could now be seen as an indicator of a significant influence on these same states. Swift published her Instagram post calling on her followers to register to vote immediately after the TV debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. According to CNN, 52,222 people subsequently registered to vote via Vote.org. 144,243 people also confirmed their registration status. Swift reiterated her call during the MTV Video Music Awards. "If you're over 18, register to vote." According to CNN, thousands of people also apparently followed the call in the contested swing states that both Donald Trump and Vice President Harris want to win: In Arizona, 1,187 people have registered to vote and 3,399 people have confirmed their registration. In Georgia, 2,124 people registered to vote and 6,939 people verified their registration. In Michigan, 1,062 people registered to vote and 3,318 people verified their registration. In North Carolina, 2,213 people registered to vote and 5,918 people verified their registration. In Nevada, 580 people registered to vote and 1,360 people verified their registration. In Pennsylvania, 2,127 people registered to vote and 5,283 people verified their registration. In Wisconsin, 1,350 people registered to vote and 1,799 people verified their registration. Data collected from 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday to 1 a.m. ET on Thursday. Young voters can make a difference Currently, Harris and her Republican opponent are close in polls. With the number of registered voters among young people declining, one of the biggest challenges for both campaigns could be getting them to register to vote in the first place. Vote.org's numbers may now suggest that Swift has succeeded in doing this. And in a close race, a few thousand votes may make a decisive difference. As Variety and others reported, vote.gov recorded 405,999 visitors in the 24 hours following Swift's post on Tuesday evening, who were redirected directly from the singer's Instagram account. That's more than ten times the traffic generated in the last one-week periods: From September 3 to 9, the website recorded around 30,000 visitors per day. The Harris campaign, meanwhile, used the pop icon's pull to run Swift-inspired campaign ads. According to CNN, digital billboards with images of Harris have recently been seen in prominent locations such as New York's Times Square. The friendship bracelets à la Swift sold by the Democratic campaign are already sold out. And how is the competitor reacting? Trump rejected Swift's support for Harris on Tuesday evening in his usual rude manner - he is "not a Taylor fan". He seems to have forgotten that his campaign has also tried to profit from the singer's influence in the past with T-shirts inspired by the Eras Tour with Trump's face. Swift also spoke out after an AI fake was used to create the impression that she was promoting Trump. "The easiest way to combat misinformation is with the truth," Swift said.
