Donald Trump: "Political Bloodbath" Threatens - Republican Outlines Horror Scenario

Donald Trump: "Political Bloodbath" Threatens - Republican Outlines Horror Scenario bua/news.de/dpa • 15 hours • 3 minutes read Donald Trump's tariff package could prove costly for Republicans in the next election. Republican Senator Ted Cruz isn't usually among the US president's critics. But now he's rebuking Trump's policies and predicting a "political bloodbath." Criticism of Donald Trump's tariff policy: Republican Senator Predicts "Political Bloodbath" According to Cruz, the announced tariff package could have serious consequences for the Republicans. "If we enter a recession—especially a severe one—then 2026 would most likely be a political bloodbath," the senator from Texas said on his podcast "Verdict." In his view, an economic downturn could threaten a loss of the majority in the House of Representatives—and possibly even in the Senate. Republicans currently hold a narrow majority in both chambers of parliament. But that could soon change: The next congressional elections in the US are scheduled for November 2026. All seats in the House of Representatives and about a third of the seats in the Senate will be up for grabs. Ted Cruz: "I'm not a fan of tariffs" Cruz stated that because of the tariff package, this week could go down in history as the "most consequential in all four years" of Trump's second term. There is "the potential for positive developments," but also the risk of "enormous risks." One possible positive scenario is that, as a result of Trump's announcement, other countries return to the negotiating table, reach an agreement, and significantly reduce their tariffs on US goods. "That could certainly happen," Cruz said. In such a case, he would "erupt with excitement." But there is also another possibility: Other countries could respond with their own higher tariffs on US products – while the tariffs imposed by Trump remain in place. This, too, is "a very real risk" and would be "terrible for America." He himself is "not a fan of tariffs." Ted Cruz's statements on Donald Trump's tariff policy are causing quite a stir online: "Wow, Ted Cruz just railed against tariffs on his podcast," writes one X user. "Is Cruz finally waking up? Tariffs are a disaster waiting to happen! While he's panicking, Moscow is lurking, ready to exploit our weaknesses. We need to confront the rot in our economy, not just react to it. No more stopgap measures! Time for real solutions," reads one tweet. "I'm a Trump supporter and I don't like these tariffs," admits another X user. "As an independent who leans slightly to the right and doesn't usually like Senator Cruz, we need more prominent figures like Ted speaking out against these tariffs. Rand Paul was kind of expected, but the more staunchly pro-Trump politicians speak out against these tariffs, the more their implementation could be skewed," reads another tweet. "Job destruction will be less likely, but economic destruction will definitely be something that's pretty obvious. In this scenario, it could happen in a year," predicts one X user.
