Is Trump anti-Muslim?

Is Donald Trump really anti-Muslim?

It’s no secret that Donald Trump is anti-Muslim. Even with his desperate attempts to distinguish his remarks on Islam and terrorisms, he has failed to convince the majority.
He once said “I love Muslims… I think they’re great people.” In another one of his interviews, he said: “I think Islam hates us”.
From saying that he will kick out the Muslim Syrian refugees to accusing American Muslims of celebrating 9/11 to the possibility of closing down the mosques in the country—he has said all kinds of nasty things about the Muslim population in the runner-up to the election and as President.
And let’s not forget his executive orders banning Muslims from selected countries.
So yes, Donald Trump is anti-Muslim. And he has made this pretty clear from Day one. His comments on Muslims are outrageous. And the saddest part is, many Americans empathize with his views, even when what he says is based on blatant lies and incorrect facts.

Of course Trump is anti-Muslim. Here’s the dead give away: “Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what the hell is going on.”
Sounds pretty anti-Muslim to me. The travel bans that he has incessantly sought to impose from the minute he swore the oath of office, with the alleged intention of protecting the country from “Radical Islamic terrorism”, did not even discriminate among Muslims from countries where terrorists originated from. They were blanket bans, capturing students, legal visa holders, relatives of legal residents in the United States. They captured everyone, except of course Muslims from those countries, like Saudi Arabia, where Trump had business interests. And which, coincidentally, terrorists who have attacked the United States actually emanated from.
The whole concept of “Radical Islamic terrorism”, a drumbeat that Trump and other ignorant right-wing bigots parroted throughout President Obama’s term in office, is designed to make no distinctions among anyone of the Muslim faith. The concept, as articulated by outlets like Fox News and Breitbart, and picked up with glee by Trump and many of his supporters, starts with the assumption that Islam is at war with the West, so any true adherent of Islam is therefore at war with the West. The only way, then, to protect America’s security from this threat is to ban all Muslims.
The hatred and discrimination that comes from such a philosophy is mind blowing, and will damage America’s reputation throughout a very large portion of the world that we would really like to get along with for at least a generation.
So Trump saw thousands of Muslims celebrating the attack on September 11 from rooftops in New Jersey (or something as stupid as that). It never happened, but he swears it did. Of course he did. When he sees a Muslim, he sees a terrorist.
When he sees Syrian refugees, he sees terrorists. When he sees desperate people fleeing to Europe, he sees terrorists. He just knows that ISIS and al Qaeda are hiding among them. Of course they are. That is their grand plan, right?
Unless they are Saudis. With money to invest. Then, for Trump, they are good. Well, as long as they stay in Saudi Arabia and give him money.

Why a Muslim (or anyone who believes in religious tolerance) would vote for Mr. Trump is a question for another day.  But the short answer to this question is... not entirely.  Clearly, Mr. Trump is a subscriber to the "good Muslim" theory-- that is, some of his most successful and lucrative business dealings in the Arab world have been with wealthy Muslim businessmen, and if you asked, he would say they are not like those other Muslims-- they are "good Muslims."  That is how bigots often insulate themselves from charges that they are bigots-- "But I am friendly with [name of person from minority religion], so I can't possibly be a bigot."  Of course, the rest of the Muslims, the ones he doesn't do business with, are to be treated with suspicion and disdain, and regarded as potential terrorists. Personally, I think Mr. Trump is a clever politician, giving the base of his party what they want to hear.  But the problem with his strategy is this:  when a politician like Mr. Trump continues to spout anti-Muslim or anti-immigrant rhetoric long enough, it's easy enough for that politician to start believing it.

Yes, your friend is in major denial.

In Trump's...  not really defense, but realistically, I don't think Trump has a lot of personal antipathy towards Muslims, but it's also clear that racists are very well represented in his political base, and he's willing to tell them whatever they want to hear.  Including that we should close certain mosques, and that we should stop allowing Muslims into the country.

Now, your friend could claim that Trump didn't actually advocate those things, just that we should consider them.  Which, if you ask me, is almost worse.  Bad enough to argue for horrible things, but to do be so weak-willed about it that he always hedges makes him both terrible and pathetic.  If he was actually willing to come out and argue for those things, I'd condemn him, but at least he'd have the strength of his convictions.  If he's pandering to his racist followers, even though he doesn't believe it? That's just appalling.

Of course not. That guy was his friend and business partner for many years:
If anything, he is guilty of presenting rather moderate, Obama-grade policies as something groundbreaking.
Some Trump supporters are vehemently anti-Muslim - say the “invade their countries, kill their leaders, convert them to Christianity” Ann Coulter. So what? Obama has supporters who are Hitler-approving Anti-semites.

If you are not a billionaire named Donald Trump who exaggerates his wealth, Donald Trump is not on your side. I doubt that he cares one way or the other about any group, but he knows what gets his base motivated and trashing people from other cultures or other religions works to his immediate benefit.
I'm not saying that he isn't going to make life miserable for Muslims if he is elected, only that he'll cheerfully make life miserable for anyone who isn't Donald Trump, exaggerator.

Probably not.

Trump is a sad excuse for a man. He is a narcissist so he has little interest in anything unless it affects him. He glides through life surrounded by "Yes" men and attorneys and experts to clean up the chaos he leaves behind him.  He has always thrown money at any problem, preferably the money of his majority investors, not his own.

He lives in fear and reacts rather than thinking through. Everything is short term and about "the deal".

For an Actor, there is no such thing as 'bad' publicity, and Trump is very much an 'actor.'
You will note in his statements, that he sez: "We may have to... blah blah blah." Not that "I will...", or "We should..."... be anti-Muslim. He impossible diatribe appeals to the those with the I.Q. of a peanut; as I'm sure any true terrorist would gladly lie if it advanced their cause. Perhaps Obama has been a high-minded man in a low-minded society; and along comes Trump to appeal to the majority.
