Clodagh Rodgers (1947-2025) has died. The singer, who represented Great Britain at the 1971 Eurovision Song Contest, has died at the age of 78. Her son, Sam Sorbie, announced this in a Facebook group. According to the report, Rodgers died on Friday from an illness she had suffered from for the past three years. She was surrounded by her family.
"My mother lived an incredible life, full of love and happiness," writes Sorbie. She had a "fantastic career," traveled the world, and dedicated her life to her two sons. She was the heart of the family. "Life without her won't be the same, but she will finally find peace with Dad, Grandma, and Grandpa. We all love and miss her terribly."
Clodagh Rodgers, who was from Northern Ireland, began her singing career as a teenager and rose to national fame in the UK in the late 1960s. In 1971, she represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in Ireland. As a Catholic woman from Northern Ireland, she received death threats from the IRA, who labeled her a traitor. With her song "Jack in the Box," Rodgers placed fourth behind Monaco, Spain, and Germany.
Clodagh Rodgers: Withdrawal from Public Life
After her successful Eurovision participation, Clodagh Rodgers continued her career in show business, releasing more singles and appearing regularly on British television. In the 1970s, she was considered one of the country's most popular entertainers.
Despite her popularity, Rodgers increasingly withdrew from the spotlight in the 1980s to focus on her family. Rodgers was the mother of two sons: Matt Morris from her first marriage to her manager. She had a son, Sam, with her second husband, Ian Sorbie, who died in 1995.
