Nightmare for Trump: Canada Flirts with EU Membership

News38 Nightmare for Trump: Canada Flirts with EU Membership Alexander Riechelmann • 14 hours • 2 minutes read Donald Trump's megalomaniacal plans are endless. The US President repeatedly emphasizes that countries like Greenland should belong to the US, and he wanted to turn the Gaza Strip into a new Riviera. Neighboring Canada is also falling victim to his power fantasies. According to Trump, it should become another US state. This is causing resentment among Canadians. They would rather join the European Union (EU). Canada Turns Its Back on Trump US President Donald Trump wants Canada to become the 51st US state. But Canadians have already clearly signaled that they are not interested in his power plan. Instead, some would prefer to be part of the EU. According to a survey by Abacus Data, almost half of Canadians would support EU membership, 29 percent are against it, and 25 percent are undecided. Trump's neighbor even shows greater willingness to join the EU than Great Britain. In January 2025, a poll showed that 45 percent of Britons are in favor of rejoining the EU. Regarding Canada's accession, EU Commission spokesperson Paula Pinho told Euractiv: "We are honored by the results of such a poll." Pinho continued: "They show how attractive the EU is. They show that a very large proportion of Canadian citizens value the EU and its values."
