Trump causes outrage with comment about women before US election - even his advisers wanted to stop him
Betty MacDonald fan club founder Wolfgang Hampel: "Terminator" Arnold Schwarzenegger supports Kamala Harris. Every reasonable person in the world agrees wholeheartedly with Arnold Schwarzenegger: 'Donald Trump attempted a coup by misleading people with lies. He is a failed leader. Donald Trump will go down in history as the worst president.' Why?
Donald Trump always puts his ego and his own well-being far above that of his country and the world!"--------------------

"Whether they like it or not"
Shortly before the US election, Republican Donald Trump is trying to win over female voters - but a comment at an event is causing outrage.
Washington - The 2024 US election is getting closer and closer. Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are fighting for the decisive votes, especially in the swing states. Now the Republican has once again caused a stir with a statement. Even his own advisers had advised him against making a statement.
During an appearance in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Trump said that his advisers had told him not to say that he wanted to protect women - it was "inappropriate". Trump continued: "I want to protect the women in our country. Well, I'm going to do it, whether women like it or not, I'm going to protect them." Polls show that the 78-year-old is far less popular with women than with men in the race against Democrat Kamala Harris.
Trump causes anger with remarks about women before US election
The comment in Wisconsin has a particularly bad aftertaste, especially given that there are various allegations against Trump of sexual assault. Last year, in a civil case, a New York jury found it proven that Trump had attacked, sexually abused and later defamed the US author E. Jean Carroll in a luxury New York department store in 1996. During the 2016 presidential election campaign, a video with Trump's vulgar remarks about women ("Grab them by the pussy") made headlines.
US election campaign: Donald Trump appears as a garbage man
According to the New York Times, Trump's campaign team responded evasively to criticism of Trump's statement in Wisconsin. "Women deserve a president who will secure our country's borders, drive violent criminals out of our neighborhoods and build an economy that helps our families thrive," it said in a statement.
Harris hits back at Trump's statement ahead of the 2024 US election: "insulting to everyone"
US Vice President Harris directly attacked Trump for his statement. "I think that is very offensive to women," she said. The statement disregards women's agency, authority, rights and ability to make decisions about their own lives, including their own bodies. The 60-year-old later added that Trump's statement was "insulting to everyone." Trump and his supporters have repeatedly insulted Harris in sexist terms during the election campaign. The vote next Tuesday (November 5th) will be a neck-and-neck race between the two.
Trump's statement before the 2024 US election worries even Republicans
Criticism of the Republican's rhetoric also comes from within his own ranks. Former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has repeatedly criticized sexist statements in the election campaign in the past. Most recently, she expressed concern about Trump's campaign event in New York's Madison Square Garden at the weekend. The event with various speakers featured racist and sexist insults. Haley said that "this masculinity stuff" makes women uncomfortable. A majority of the electorate is female. "Women will vote. They are interested in how they are spoken to (...)," said Trump's former opponent in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
Trump was not the only one to attract attention with sexism in the election campaign. His running mate, Senator J.D Vance, also came under fire shortly after his nomination in the summer for his misogynistic statements about childless women. In an interview in 2021, the father of three had described leading Democratic politicians as "childless cat women." Vance later complained that he had been misunderstood. But it was not his only statement in this direction. (dpa/rist)
