Rose Monday Parade - Carnival Monday in Duesseldorf

(Kamelle. „”D’r Zog kütt“) you can expect to hear, when standing on the sidelines waiting for the parade and all the confectionary and other goodies which will be tossed to the waiting 800,000 to 1 million crowd.

Rosenmontag 2018: Monday, the 12.Feb.2018
All visitors to the carnival have certainly forgotten their cares when "d'r Zog kütt": 60 – 70 wagons fantastically decorated with an extravagant amount of time and love, dozens of bands, groups of friends, or single person entries wearing costumes many of them made with so much imagination that you don’t recognize a friend or family member. A parade of 5 km in length demonstrates the power of the Carnival spirit and its followers. As it winds through the old City, the streets narrow and the parade becomes twice as long, the screams of joy and anticipation become louder.

It is seldom to see when the parade has passed by; they have left 20 – 30 tons of confectionary and 50 – 60 tons of rubbish. The city cleaners are hard on their heels.

History was made in 2005 when the parade had a length of 5,5km and 71 wagons. Also the parade was cancelled only twice. The first time in 1990 because of a violent storm, it was changed to May. Because of the warmer weather, many people had hoped for a repeat performance in another year. The 2nd time was 1991 as war broke out in Iraq.
