Toronto (dts News Agency) - US historian Timothy Snyder has highlighted Germany's role in the current situation in the US. "This moment is an opportunity for Germany, because Germany is perhaps the most important functioning democracy in the world right now," he told the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" (Saturday edition).
The new US President Donald Trump was not the trigger for his move from the US to Canada, said the Holocaust researcher. "People are fleeing Trump. But I didn't run away." His departure from Yale University and move to Toronto made headlines in March.
Nevertheless, Snyder sharply criticizes the Trump administration, saying America has not learned any lessons from the consequences of the 9/11 attacks. "As terrible as the Bush administration's reactions were, the Trump administration will likely be much more radical," he said.
