The tariff dispute triggered by the US is causing tension between Elon Musk and Peter Navarro, an advisor to Donald Trump. Musk repeatedly called him an "idiot" and "dumber than a sack of bricks" on his platform "X." Navarro had previously suggested that Tesla was more of an assembly company than a car manufacturer, which Musk angrily rejected. "Navarro is truly a moron. What he's saying here is demonstrably false," Musk commented. Tesla is "by any definition" the most vertically integrated automaker in America with the highest proportion of US content. Tariff policy hits Tesla hard: Share price plummets and billions in losses Since Trump announced the new tariffs on April 2, Tesla shares have lost nearly 14 percent of their value. Since mid-December, the value has even halved. This led to a decline in market capitalization of more than $800 billion. Musk himself has experienced a loss of approximately $135 billion since the beginning of the year, including $35 million in losses alone.
