On the anniversary of the beginning of the Revolutionary War 250 years ago, thousands of demonstrators are once again marching through US cities against the Trump administration. The protests are primarily directed against an impending constitutional crisis in the US and the US President's controversial deportation policy.
Thousands of demonstrators march through Manhattan against Trump
Thousands of people in the US once again protested against President Donald Trump and his policies. Two weeks after the largest protests since Trump's return to the White House, demonstrations took place again on Saturday in New York, Washington, and many other cities across the country.
The various events ranged from a march through Midtown Manhattan and a rally in front of the White House to a demonstration at a commemoration in Massachusetts marking the beginning of the Revolutionary War 250 years ago.
At a protest in New York, people held signs with slogans such as "No Kings in America" and "Resist Tyranny." Many also protested Trump's deportation policy and chanted, "No ICE, no fear, immigrants are welcome here," referring to the US immigration enforcement agency ICE, which is involved in the crackdown on undocumented immigrants.
"We are in grave danger," said 73-year-old protester Kathy Valy, whose parents survived the Holocaust. She compared the beginning of Trump's second term to the Nazi seizure of power in Germany in 1933. But Trump is "far dumber than Hitler or the other fascists," Valy said. "He is being manipulated, and his own team is divided."
The looming constitutional crisis in the US was also a topic of discussion in Washington. 41-year-old Benjamin Douglas accused Trump of a "direct attack on the very idea of the rule of law."
Protests also took place in many other cities. According to organizers, a total of around 400 demonstrations were planned. In the state of Texas, for example, there was a small rally in the coastal city of Galveston. "This is my fourth demonstration. Normally, I would sit back and wait for the next election," said 63-year-old Patsy Oliver. "We can't do that now. We've already lost too much."
In the state of California, several hundred anti-Trump protesters gathered on a beach in San Francisco. The San Francisco Chronicle published a photo of the demonstrators forming a large circle and chanting the words "Impeach + Remove."
The demonstrations two weeks ago, with tens of thousands of participants, were the largest protests against Trump since he took office in January
