Tips from expats: Escape to Europe! Where Americans want to emigrate after Trump's victory

STERN Tips from expats: Escape to Europe! Where Americans want to emigrate after Trump's victory Niels Kruse • 16 hours • 3 minutes reading time After Donald Trump's brilliant election victory, many Americans are considering emigrating. But where? To Europe, for example - experts reveal the best options. There will probably be a few more of these déjà vu sentences. Sentences that were already read around this time during Donald Trump's first term in office. For example: "How do I emigrate to Canada?" After his election victory in 2016, the question was one of the most frequently asked on Google. And now, after the brilliant comeback of the former US president, the same thought is once again on the minds of thousands of people. Where to flee from Donald Trump? The Republican's harsh rhetoric is unsettling many Americans - not only minorities such as Latinos who have been offended by Trump, but also those who fear his autocratic leadership, suffer from the high cost of living or generally want a better quality of life. Emigrating is once again a big topic after Trump's re-election. But where to? And how? The US magazine "Forbes" met with experts on digital nomadism, expats and emigration and compiled a list of promising destinations for Trump refugees. European countries are also among them. Emigrating for political reasons? Not a good idea "My move abroad was about healing myself, finding a better quality of life and getting to know great cultures," Michelle Garabito, operator of "The Lux Nomads," told "Forbes." She also feels safe in her current short-term home of Turkey, "without the constant fear of mass shootings." Well, the latter is a very specific American fear. But Alex Ingrim from Florence, who advises people who want to immigrate to Italy, points out that emigration "for purely political reasons" is usually not permanent. In other words: Anyone who wants to leave the country because of the current government is rarely doing themselves a favor. The "Forbes" suggestions therefore list more pragmatic than political advantages. The emigration list, not surprisingly, includes neighboring countries: Canada, because of the same culture and language and the significantly better health system. Mexico because of the cheaper cost of living Panama because of the common currency and the quality of life. The small Central American state is also currently very popular with many non-American foreigners. An Asian country is even recommended: Vietnam. Not just because of the low prices, but also because of the "relaxed work-life balance". "The Albanian government and people are very welcoming to Americans, and it is one of the safest and most affordable places in Europe," writes Cepee Tabibian, author of a guide for Americans who want to live in Europe. With its mix of affordable prices, culture and a first-class healthcare system, Spain is a hotspot for digital nomads and retirees. Popular areas: Malaga, Madrid, Marbella and the beaches of the Costa Blanca. Most Europeans rave about the small Atlantic state: The relaxed lifestyle with low living costs and a good healthcare system is also attractive to Americans. Affordable is not the first word that comes to mind when you think of Monaco. Instead, the small spot is a "prime location for wealthy individuals who value a tax-free environment, unmatched security and a luxurious Mediterranean lifestyle," as Forbes puts it. The country has a firm place in the hearts of more than just Italian-Americans. "Italy is a great place to live because public transportation is very good, public healthcare is affordable, and we boast an abundance of art and beauty, from our coastlines to our architectural masterpieces," says Italian Real Estate Lawyers. Sure, France. For most Americans, it's the epitome of European life. Families are also drawn to France because of its excellent education system and safe, secure communities. Children thrive in an environment that emphasizes holistic development and a balanced lifestyle.
