Betty MacDonald fan club fans,


Betty MacDonald's granddaughter Heidi Keil Richards passed away at the age of only 65 three years ago.

Heidi Keil Richards was the first child of Betty MacDonald's daughter Joan MacDonald Keil and husband Jerry Keil.

Heidi was an outstanding personality and very creative.

Heidi Keil Richards supported us with Betty MacDonald birthday exhibition and sent us an artwork of her own and a wonderful birthday card by her mother Joan MacDonald Keil.

Not to forget our excellent cooperation with several activities regarding Betty MacDonald's book Nancy and Plum.

Jerry Keil became Joan MacDonald Keil's adviser as she lobbied publishers to reprint the out-of-print "Nancy and Plum." When publishers rejected the reissue, they printed and distributed the book themselves.



We adored Heidi Keil Richards very much.

Heidi Keil Richards

Heidi Keil Richards passed away after a two year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born January 31, 1951, she grew up in Bellevue and attended the University of Washington earning a degree in Art and Education. 

She received her masters from Lesley College. She spent her teaching career in the Bellevue School district teaching elementary art and then finished the last half of her career at Newport High School. Upon retiring Heidi and Kim moved to Vashon where she had a beautiful view of Mount Rainier and the South Sound.

She is survived by her husband, Kim, daughters, Heather and Devin, her two grandchildren, Estelle and Owen and her brother Toby Keil. She has many nieces and nephews and is remembered fondly by all.

Heidi cherished time with her loved ones, spending summers sailing the Salish Sea, walking beaches always looking for agates and skiing with her family. Heidi loved reading doing her art and traveling.

A celebration for Heidi will be held at Camp Burton on the 30th of October at 1:00. She wished for no flowers, but encouraged all to spend time with the ones they love.
