A Martin Luther Tour
You don’t have to be a Lutheran to appreciate the fiery passion and courageous idealism of Martin Luther, Father of the Reformation. This German theologian and former monk led an effort to reform the Church of his day but in the end began a new branch of Christianity. A journey through the sites connected to the famous reformer includes some of Germany’s most charming medieval cities and towns.
In 2017 Germany is celebrating the 500th anniversary of Luther’s nailing of the 95 Theses on the church door at Wittenberg. The years leading up to that date have been designated the Luther Decade, during which there will be many special events and observances. Suggestions for a Martin Luther Tour: This tour focuses on the main Luther sites of Wittenberg, Eisenach, and Erfurt, with the possible addition of Luther’s birthplace in Eisleben.
The closest international airport to the Luther sites is in Frankfurt. From there you can either pick up a rental car or take the train to Wittenberg. Once you’re in Wittenberg, you will likely want a car to travel to the other cities.
