11 Completely Absurd Reasons To Love Washington

Yes, Washington is breathtakingly beautiful… and our scenery is diverse… and our produce is second to none. That being said, when you live in the Evergreen State long enough, you start to love it for its quirks. You develop quite a sense of humor about your home, and when people ask what you adore so much about it, you can hardly contain yourself.
Even if you don’t agree with these 11 reasons to love Washington, you must admit they’re valid, if not a bit silly.

1. We have a strange obsession with Sasquatch.

Although this mythical creature has never been proven real, there are tons of reported Bigfoot sightings in Washington. We like to keep the mystery alive.

2. In Washington, there are three certainties: death, taxes, and Dave Matthews Band at The Gorge.

How many years has DMB played at The Gorge on Labor Day weekend? 10? 20? It's hard to remember due to all the fun (and the contact highs) of the weekend.

3. Washington produces more apples here than any other state, and they're delicious.

4. We are extremely dedicated to our sports teams.

No matter how many games the Mariners lose in a row, we will be there. We love our Sounders, and we love our Hawks. Don't even get us started on the Sonics.

5. We have a haunted mystery Coke machine in Seattle.

7. Washington has the only temperate rain forest in the continental United States.

8. We made history when we legalized recreational marijuana in 2012.

9. Our towns have amazing names.

10. Washington has a lot of offbeat "firsts" to brag about.

The Space Needle was the country's first revolving restaurant. The world's first soft-serve ice cream machine was in a Dairy Queen in Olympia. The first Cinnabon opened in Federal Way, and of course, there's that whole Starbucks thing.

11. The concept of the "bikini coffee stand" started in Washington.

What can we say, we love to get creative with our coffee.

Whatever your reasons, it feels good to love the state you live in. Here are some slightly more traditional reasons everyone should adore Washington.
