Why do young people no longer want anything to do with the Greens?

Why do young people no longer want anything to do with the Greens? The distancing of young people from the Greens in Germany can be attributed to several factors. Some young people criticize the Greens for their positions, which are perceived as too restrictive or prohibition-oriented. For example, the Green Youth has caused controversy with its more radical views on economic and social policy, such as advocating democratic socialism and criticizing the market economy. In addition, there have been incidents in which the Green Youth has taken positions that were considered too extreme or unpopular by the general public and even by parts of their own party. One example of this is the so-called “flag dispute,” in which the Green Youth called for Germany flags to be dispensed with at the European Football Championship, which led to the parent party distancing itself. In addition, there is criticism of the Greens’ perceived “lack of strategy,” especially with regard to the implementation of their political goals within the traffic light coalition. These factors may contribute to young people turning away from the Greens and looking for alternative political options that better reflect their views and values.
