New Skyttedal alliance in Sweden wants to abolish the right to asylum

THE MIRROR New Skyttedal alliance in Sweden wants to abolish the right to asylum 14 hours • 2 minutes reading time She was too right-wing for the conservatives: Now the controversial Swedish politician Sara Skyttedal is running in the EU elections with her own alliance called Folklistan. Former Social Democrats are also there. The controversial Swedish politician Sara Skyttedal is surprisingly running with her own party formation for the EU elections at the beginning of June. The new group calls itself Folklistan and, according to Swedish media reports, wants to abolish the right to asylum in the EU. Skyttedal was only removed from the Swedish Christian Democrats (KD) candidate list in February because she had temporarily held talks with the right-wing populist Sweden Democrats. For weeks Skyttedal was at the center of a mudslinging in the Swedish media. It was about passing on private text messages and breaking with the KD party leader and Swedish Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch. For years, Skyttedal had been one of the most prominent representatives of her party and made a name for herself in parliament as a right-wing hardliner. Former Social Democrat and ex-MP Jan Emanuel is now part of Skyttedal's new formation. The two told the Swedish media that it was not an ordinary party, but rather an association of politicians from different parties. There is agreement on migration policy. The asylum law system no longer corresponds to European reality, said Emanuel. In an interview with SPIEGEL, Skyttedal attacked EU Commission President and EPP leading candidate Ursula von der Leyen. »What we now have is a center-right Commission President who makes green and left-wing policies. I would even prefer a left-wing Commission President who makes the right policies," said Skyttedal. The EU Parliament election will take place in Sweden on June 9th. A party must receive at least four percent of the vote in Sweden to win one of Sweden's seats in parliament.
