Former US President Donald Trump has rejected an invitation from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Kyiv, raising concerns that it could lead to a conflict of interest with the current Biden administration.
Zelensky, who is openly skeptical of Trump's claims that he could end the war within 24 hours, made the invitation during an NBC interview, suggesting a 24-minute meeting to explain why Trump's negotiations would not be feasible, largely due to the attitude of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump communicated his opposition in a statement to Newsmax in which he expressed "great respect" for Zelensky but considered the visit "inappropriate" at the time.

He reiterated his position that the Biden administration's ongoing dealings with Ukraine should remain unaffected by his involvement.
The former president has repeatedly boasted that the Russian invasion did not happen under his presidency and that he had the ability to negotiate a quick end to the ongoing war. However, Trump has remained tight-lipped about the details of his strategy, only hinting that he wants to hold specific talks with Zelensky and Putin.
In contrast, Zelensky has loudly called for more military aid from U.S. lawmakers and warned of the potential for Russia to target NATO countries, which would significantly increase U.S. commitment.
The Biden administration has proposed a large aid package that includes support for Ukraine, while the House of Representatives has put forward a more limited aid package focused on Israel.
