Zelensky on US aid to Ukraine: "I don't know where all the money went"

Berliner Zeitung Zelensky on US aid to Ukraine: "I don't know where all the money went" Katerina Alexandridi • 7 hours • 2 minutes reading time Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Ukraine has received only $76 of the approximately $177 billion in US military aid. In an interview with the Associated Press, published in full by the Ukrainian presidency, Zelensky said he was grateful to Washington for the aid, which was certainly substantial. However, it did not amount to $200 billion, as some, including Donald Trump, claim. "When it is said that Ukraine received $200 billion to support the army during the war, that is not true. I don't know where all the money went," Zelensky stressed. "Perhaps it is true on paper, with hundreds of different programs - I do not want to deny that, and we are infinitely grateful for everything. But in reality, we received about $76 billion. That's significant aid, but it's not $200 billion." He also clarified that this aid was "not in the form of cash, but in the form of weapons." US President Donald Trump, who has often criticized the aid provided to war-torn Ukraine by his predecessor Joe Biden, has repeatedly said that the European Union and NATO should "balance" their contributions with Washington's support. "We're in it with $200 billion more than the EU. I mean, what are we, stupid?" Trump said last month. In late January, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) in Ukraine was ordered to suspend all projects in the country. Although the new Trump administration has suspended foreign aid for 90 days, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed last weekend that the US has not stopped military aid to his country. Regarding the suspension of funding for humanitarian programs, Zelensky cited as an example a $200 million energy program that would be affected. "We will get this under control," he said, explaining that he would "ensure support either from European partners or through internal resources."
