Sweden shooting: New details about the perpetrator - Elon Musk is reprimanded

Berliner Zeitung Sweden shooting: New details about the perpetrator - Elon Musk is reprimanded Katerina Alexandridi • 5 hours • 2 minutes reading time After the worst gun attack in Sweden's history, the country is in shock. A man opened fire in an educational institution for young adults in Örebro on Tuesday and killed ten people. The perpetrator, whose identity the police did not disclose, is also dead. The police confirmed on Thursday morning that there is no evidence of ideological motives on the part of the perpetrator. "We understand that this is a very important question, not least for those affected. So far we can say that we have not found any evidence of an ideological motive," said Niclas Hallgren, deputy police chief of Bergslagen, according to public broadcaster SVT. According to Hallgren, the police discovered several rifles on the school premises, but it is unclear whether the suspect fired all of them. In addition, numerous Swedish media have identified the suspect as 35-year-old Rickard Andersson. His acquaintances describe him to the tabloid newspaper Expressen as an introverted person who has become more and more withdrawn in recent years. According to reports, his original name was Jonas Simon, but he later changed his name. He was born in Örebro, where the massacre took place, and graduated from ninth grade without passing a single subject. While Sweden is in shock and looking for answers, tech billionaire Elon Musk is speaking out about the tragedy. On Wednesday evening, Musk quoted an X post from the account Inevitable West, which said: "You would be forgiven for not knowing that there was a school massacre in Sweden yesterday in which 10 people were killed. No European politician has mentioned it. The mainstream media is silent, as always. Is this the new normal for Europe?" Musk adds two exclamation marks. But the claim is false, as Musk's own "Community Notes" on his X platform make clear. "Many mainstream media outlets from around the world have covered the shooting in Sweden," it says. "European politicians have also spoken out, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, whose reaction is highlighted in the Le Monde article." Swedish media also condemn the Tesla billionaire and Donald Trump ally, listing the heads of state and government who have condemned the massacre and expressed their condolences to the country. These include Emmanuel Macron, Justin Trudeau, Viktor Orbán and Volodymyr Zelensky.
