Fallen asleep at the party convention: Video of "Sleepy Don" Trump causes a stir
Sleepless in Milwaukee: Donald Trump is allegedly filmed sleeping during the Republican Party Convention. What does the recording really show?
Milwaukee - A short video clip from the US Republican Party Convention is currently occupying the social media community: It shows former President Donald Trump allegedly sleeping during a speech. Trump, who narrowly survived an assassination attempt a few days ago, sits next to his running mate J.D. Vance and gives the impression of briefly dozing off, while Vance sits next to him with his eyes open.

But is everything really as it seems? The sequence suggests: Trump falls asleep in the middle of the conference. This is tricky, as in the current skirmish about the 2024 US election, the incumbent president and Democratic candidate Joe Biden has also been repeatedly attacked by Trump for his supposed old age and sleepiness.
The term "Sleepy Biden" has practically become a catchphrase among Republicans to question his suitability for the presidency due to his advanced age. Biden, at 81 the oldest president in US history, admitted to almost falling asleep during the first presidential debate in Atlanta.
However, the news portal CBS News and the news agency AFP note that the recording was presumably made during Pastor James Roemke's prayer. The recordings, published on the X platform, among others, are nevertheless getting users excited.
"Sleeping" Donald Trump stirs up emotions ahead of US election
Social media reactions have ranged from appeasement to ridicule and calls for Trump to resign. One X user compared the incident to Trump not being able to stay awake at his own convention, casting doubt on his ability to stay awake "for America." Another commenter noted, "I tried to watch all of this myself yesterday and then fell asleep myself." This social media user noted, "This is during prayer. Don't you pray?"
The incident has sparked conversation not only because of the video, but also because Trump recently escaped an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Trump survived the attack, which killed one person and seriously injured two others after a bullet narrowly missed his ear. (chnnn)
