Wolfgang Kubicki on the election broadcast: "I expect a swift explanation from the director of ZDF"
1 hour • 1 minute reading time
The "Schlagabtausch" program broadcast on Thursday evening on ZDF continues to attract criticism. Already during the program, Christian Lindner (FDP) criticized the audience as "Green Youth" after they only applauded when the Left and Greens spoke - even during the introduction round, which is anything but usual.
This situation is now attracting a lot of criticism. Even several politicians have now intervened and criticized the circumstances.
"Election helpers for left-wing parties": Wolfgang Kubicki addresses ZDF director
Wolfgang Kubicki, for example, said: "After yesterday's Schlagabtausch broadcast, ZDF has a lot to explain. The accusation that it is acting as an election helper for left-wing parties is easy to make with the selection of the studio audience. It cannot be that the public broadcaster intervenes in such an indecent manner during such a sensitive phase of this election campaign."
And further: "I expect a swift explanation from the director of ZDF, because such incidents now give a fairly clear picture that cannot even begin to be reconciled with the mission of this broadcaster."
ZDF invited students from two left-wing universities in Berlin
Later, a commentator stated that the audience would come primarily from two universities in Berlin that are left-wing - but they were apparently invited by ZDF in the same way. Gerald Ullrich from the FDP federal executive board also criticized the broadcast for this reason.
He writes: "Why, dear ZDFheute, aren't trainees from vocational schools invited as an audience, why only students from left-wing universities? Does no one get it or is this distortion of public opinion intentional? If it is intentional, this must be changed urgently."
