With Ken Martin, the Democratic Party in the USA has elected a new chairman. He is starting with a declaration of war on Donald Trump "and his billionaire allies".
After the defeat in the presidential election in November, the US Democrats have elected a new chairman. Ken Martin, previously party leader in the US state of Minnesota, is replacing Jaime Harrison. The 51-year-old says he has made it his mission to hold Republican US President Donald Trump accountable, to unite his own party and to fight for working families.
"Donald Trump and his billionaire allies have been warned: We will hold them accountable for ripping off working families, and we will beat them at the ballot box," Martin promised in his acceptance speech, according to a statement.
Martin is a long-serving member of the Democrats. As a student, he was already involved in the election campaign for the future President Bill Clinton and his vice president Al Gore in 1992. Later, he organized, among others, the election campaign in Minnesota for the defeated Democratic candidates Gore (2000) and John Kerry (2004).
