"There is a European habit of waiting to see what the Americans do, or what the Russians do. Europe must urgently overcome this," Snyder told the magazine "Stern" after the sharp attacks by US Vice President J.D. Vance at the Munich Security Conference. Expert Snyder warned: "The Europeans are paralyzing themselves if they continue to assume that they cannot do anything as long as it is unclear what America and Russia are doing." Historian warns Germans and Europe about Trump and Putin: Undermining the rule of law The expert sees a direct connection between the attempt to overturn US democracy and the US government's intentions for Europe: Snyder said that Vance, who had accused the allies of endangering democracy and freedom of expression, had given the speech of "an imperialist who wants to undermine the rule of law in Germany and the entire EU." When asked whether Germans were aware of the importance of the new Bundestag elections next weekend, he said: "What I can say is that Germany is the most important democracy in the world today."
