Peters • 11 hours • 2 minutes reading time Venice (dpa) – The American president's son Donald Trump Jr. is in trouble because of a hunting trip in the Venice Lagoon. The 47-year-old is said to have illegally shot protected wild birds during his stay in the northern Italian region at the end of last year. Environmentalists are now demanding that the right-wing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome hold the American to account despite his influential father. A video shows the president's son in military camouflage clothing proudly reporting on the hunt in the midst of shot birds. Later, dozens of dead birds such as wild geese, ducks and quails lie on the ground as trophies. According to environmentalists, among the animals killed is an orange-red ruddy shelduck, which is now rarely seen in Europe. Government should explain hunting trip The left-wing opposition announced that it would file charges against Trump Jr. Green city councilor Andrea Zanoni said of the visit from the USA: "They can't act like big shots here." The scenes were filmed in an area called Valle Pirimpie, which has been designated as a special protection area by the EU. Hunting is prohibited for foreigners there. The opposition also demanded an explanation from Italy's Environment Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, who, like Meloni, belongs to the right-wing party Fratelli d'Italia (Brothers of Italy). The video is titled "The Global Hunt for Adventure."
