Munich (dts news agency) - After the alleged car attack in Munich, Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) assumes it was an attack. "There are many indications of this," he said on Thursday at the scene of the crime.
"Everything else" still needs to be determined. The details will be clarified. A police spokesman said meanwhile that the perpetrator was a 24-year-old Afghan. He is an asylum seeker by status. He was arrested at the scene of the crime, and the police also fired a shot at the car used in the attack.
The man is said to have driven a small car into a crowd of people in downtown Munich this morning. At least 28 people were injured, some seriously, according to the police. The group of people were participants in a strike march by the Verdi union.
The group reacted with horror: "We are deeply dismayed and shocked by the serious incident during a peaceful demonstration," said Verdi boss Frank Werneke. However, they will not participate in "speculation" and will wait for the police investigation.
