Munich (dts news agency) - Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) accuses Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) of not having supported Ukraine consistently enough in the war against Russia.
At an event organized by the Münchner Merkur (Ippen-Media) on Saturday, when asked whether the course of the war would not have been more positive for Ukraine if Europe and Chancellor Scholz had supported it more intensively from the start, she said: "In any case, fewer people would have died. That must be said clearly and unambiguously."
On the other hand, she does not accept the argument that arms deliveries would unnecessarily prolong the war in Ukraine, said the Foreign Minister. She also regularly conveys this when visiting school classes, where the topic comes up again and again. "I then say to them: Do you think that if I step in front of the television cameras and say that we are no longer providing air support, that will bring peace? Or will the Russian troops not continue to advance and eventually end up at the Polish border?"
