"Chefsache ESC": Viewers take to the barricades - "That can't be true"

After Stefan Raab's spectacular comeback last year, the entertainer is now firmly rooted in the German television landscape again. One musical project is particularly close to the TV star's heart: the "Eurovision Song Contest". Together with the broadcasters RTL and ARD, the 58-year-old has now put together the show "Chefsache ESC".
The aim of the eventful show: to find this year's candidate who will represent Germany at the big "ESC". The winner of the show will travel to Basel this year and perform on one of the biggest stages in Europe. But the second edition of the talent show is already putting viewers in a bad mood.
"Chefsache ESC" is getting headwind
Established musicians and newcomers were able to apply online for the "Chefsache ESC" in advance. After this phase, the 24 best artists were notified. The singers and bands must now prove their skills in a total of three spectacular shows, because only one of them will be allowed to stand on the big "ESC" stage in Switzerland in May 2025.
On Saturday evening (January 15th), RTL will be showing the second edition of the big music show. Barbara Schöneberger will host the spectacle and entertain the audience with her humorous style. Stefan Raab, Yvonne Catterfeld and Elton form the top-class jury that will evaluate the talent of the participants. In the second edition of the show, Johannes Oerding will also give his expert opinion.
But despite top musical performances and entertaining conversations among the jury members, “Chefsache ESC” does not seem to be particularly well received by some viewers. There are a number of critical comments on the social media app X (formerly Twitter). Among other things, viewers write:
“It can’t be true that people who CANNOT SING are sent to the ESC!”
“On the one hand, all the advertising is annoying. On the other hand, I am grateful for the advertising so that I can recover from the performances.”
“I hate to say it. But we need a Dieter Bohlen on the jury who is really honest…”
“The jury’s assessments sound like benevolent, coded testimonials for poor employee performance.”
“At the same time, I’m watching the semi-finals of the Melodienfestivalen in Sweden. And there, even the artists I don’t like are better than the acts that are competing today.”
The list of points of criticism for “Chefsache ESC” viewers is therefore long. The candidates have apparently not been able to convince anyone so far.
It remains to be seen who will ultimately represent Germany at the big “Eurovision Song Contest”. Stefan Raab certainly seems to be thoroughly enjoying his role as a juror.
